Lilo: More About Me

I realize that I've been giving all this advice, & you guys don't know Lilo the PERSON, let alone the blogger lol. I guess I'll tell you all a little more about me.

My actual name is Danielle. I got the nickname Lilo in high school (From the cartoon Lilo & Stitch) and it just stuck.

I live, eat & breathe music. I am a singer, & most of all a poet. Certain songs have the ability to change my whole mood & sometimes outlook on life. I personally believe music is God's personal gift to us. If you think about it, music is the one thing that we as humans essentially don't need but yet can't live without. Words & sounds put to a melody might be the best thing ever created.

I am a 3rd college student at The University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee, majoring in professional writing & communication. I am also in a beautiful relationship with my boyfriend of almost a year. :-)

Glad I could open up to you guys...hope to hear from any of you soon! Take care!

Caviar Manicures: The New Trend!

Ladies, there is a new trend in nails: the Caviar Manicure! Miniature beads cover the entire nail for a fierce & fun look. There's a company in London by the name of Ciaté who sells the polish with matching beads for $25 at Sephora. I think the price is ridiculous, so I went to the craft store & lo & behold...there the beads were for $6.99 for a pack of SIX. Yes. Six.

The first picture is of my hands while testing this out at work. The second is a Ciaté model's hands. Do you all prefer the cheaper alternative? Let me know what you all think!

Busy Busy Bee!

Hey ladies I've been so busy with work to the point of exhaustion! I haven't kept up with you all & to make up for that I have some VERY interesting things to post! Stay tuned!

My Weekly Inspiration

Poet. Singer. Actress. Mother. Biggest inspiration in my musical life. Jill Scott epitomizes all that I love about music, & she is sooo beautiful! Inside & out. She just did a special on VH1 & I was moved to tears! I think everyone has something to learn from Ms. Jill. I just love her.

Summer Accesories!!!

What's summer without huge sunglasses, open toed shoes & big bangles? My rule of thumb is always simple clothes; extravagant Accesories. People will sooner remember the girl with the banging wooden earrings before the girl in the red shirt.

I went shopping & added more goodies to my summer collection...let me share:

Sunglasses- These are so cute! I love that the arms of the glasses are at the bottom of the lens; a quirky reason why I bought them. Every woman should have a pair of glasses that says "No autographs, please" lol

Wooden/Teal Bangle - If you know me, then you know teal is my ABSOLUTE favorite color. This bangle has so much personality; I wore it yesterday with a burnt orange shirt, & it really stuck out. I love wearing natural colors.

L'Oreal HIP Eyeshadow Duo in "Bustling" - Summer is all about Sparkly, warm colors! This duo has both;
I use the brown almost as a liner because it's so pigmented. The gold I add in my middle lid & blend up with a lighter golden peachy color.

Random Things In My Purse

I always carry a pretty big Coach Tote bag with me, & sometimes I amaze myself with what's inside. It's like I'm always prepared for a party lol.

I am a sucker for lip gloss/lipstick/lip scrubs & I basically collect them.

- I just found a new one by Vitamin Water called VitaminSchtick. ($1, Dollar Tree) It was the packaging that made me buy it lol.

I love the note after where it says "Lemonade"

You can call me a nail polish connoisseur...I have over 60 bottles at last count.

-I found this super glittery polish from Forever 21 ($1.80) & I'm in love with it. I should've bought two! I'll post a pic of what it looks like on my nails when I get home from work :-)

It looks like this in person too! ^_^

Every woman should carry travel hand sanitizer! This one from Bath & Body Works ($1.50) smells so good!

I put some on my wrists as emergency perfume!

Welp, besides two packages of hot tea & a comb & brush....there's nothing else in my purse that's blog worthy. Lol. I'll give you guys another post later in the day. Ciao. :-*

From My Heart to Yours

Less School, More Blogging!

I'm so relieved to be done with my sophomore year of college!
Now that I have more time on my hands, I can share more of myself with you guys. So I guess this is what's new with me:

I've recently been updating my wardrobe, and I've decided to give skirts a chance.
2 years ago I wouldn't be caught dead in a skirt, but thanks to lovely friends & a wonderful boyfriend (along with self-esteem of course!) I'm becoming much more comfortable with my body.

I never write anything on this blog, but I am determined to keep it up this time. I caught myself blogging in my head every time a made a purchase this week lol, so I think it was a sign.

Initially I wanted to only focus on fashion and how to make plus size women feel beautiful, but life is about a whole lot more than that. I plan on sharing my tips & advice, as well as my insecurities & my life. Hope you guys enjoy what I have to say...coming straight from my heart to yours.

I'm Back...for the 1st Time...

Gosh, it's been so long since I've made a post.

Two years to be exact. Sorry for my absence...

I'm gonna make a real effort to keeping this blog updated this time around.

I have so much to share with you all...and maybe you'll share some of my positive

sentiments with your friends & loved ones. :-)

I think I'll start with fall fashions after the jump... <3

[+] Size is a PLUS- Do's and Don'ts of Big Girl Fashion [+]

Ladies, ladies...ladies....

I love all of my Divas, skinny and thick alike,

but there are some things that we as thicker women can and cannot do...

so let me give you ladies the basics of finding the best shapes, silhouettes and cuts

for your body type....don't know your type? Okay, no problem, let's clarify....

<--Top Heavy-->

This one tends to be a little tricky, but ladies work what you have! If you have beautiful gams, show those legs off! Some top heavy sisters are so keenly aware of the top half of their body, that they neglect to show it off! There's nothing wrong with a little cleavage, but it has to be done tastefully...Tocarra here isn't as plus as we remember, but she is a good example of how to rock cleavage; the heart shaped neckline is gorgeous...keep in mind that low cut tops probably aren't a good idea, because when your girls are big the cleavage is gonna show regardless...& stay away from longer cut t-shirts, ladies they do nothing for your frame! They shorten your legs and call more attention to your stomach...not a good look! ...Next up...

<--Thicker Hourglass-->

This shape defines me the most...<---That would be me lol...I'm definitely bigger at the bottom than I am up top, but I have larger breast and a smaller waist, so the focal points on my body would be the breast and my hips.

This body type is the most proportionate of all the body types, which means it's also more versatile....I am a 22 in pants...but I can't really fit plus sized tops because I'm short so they drape on me. I personally prefer these items:

1. Dark, tight skinny jeans to accentuate the hips, and draw attention to the length of the legs.

2. Shorter cut shirts again to lengthen the look of the legs.

3. Girls with big arms don't be scared of short sleeved shirts!...I inherited some thick arms from my granny and I'm proud of them! lol.

4. Empire cut shirts and dresses look gorgeous on this figure!!! They attract attention to the breast while at the same time drawing the eye down and increasing atttention on full hips. (And we all like that lol) ----> see? I'll try my best to find pictures of plus sized models in any examples I show.

*Bonus- I love, love, LOVE, dark jeans...lighter ones call more attention to the size of the thighs...and I have some thunder thighs for real lol so for simple looks, darker is better.

Bottom Heavy (I.E. Lots of hips!!! Or the pear shape lol)

I personally love this shape...I am working on getting my arms in shape and losing a bit of stomach so that I fit more into this category...ladies did you know that the pear shape in considered the most healthy??? If you're not the ideal weight for a woman your height and age (check your BMI), if you carry most of that weight in your thighs and hips then you probably have nothing to worry about! .....anyways...empire lines also look extremely well on this shape, and you have to LOVE tight jeans!!! I would most definitely rock a corset and jeans to accentuate the waist, and lengthen the legs.

Just a tidbit for all of you beautiful, fashion forward ladies out there....that was the basics...

next I will be giving you an article about how plus size divas can be GLAM too....

(P.S. sorry it took so long to post, GeekSquad had my poor little Dell forever!) lol
